Some of our frequently asked questions

is the beef organic?

The short answer is no. While our beef is as natural as possible, we are not organically certified. However no antibiotics or growth hormones are used in the calves. Feel free to contact us about our practices!

Do you process the beef on your farm?

Nope!  For wholesale, we transport them to Reed's Meat Processing in Clanton, Alabama.  For individual cuts we use Southern Integrity Meats in Vinemont, Alabama.

Are the calves finished out on a special feed?

Yes. While primarily grass and hay fed, the calves are hand fed twice daiy with soy hull pellets.  They spend their days frolicking out in an open pasture with free choice water and minerals.

What breed are the calves?

They are a SimAngus-Hereford cross.

How are old are the calves and how much do they weigh?

The calves are between a year and eighteen months old, and weigh approximately 900 to 1000 pounds!

What is the total yield after processing?

​Whole

  • Approximately 350-380 lbs of meat*

Half

  • Approximately 175-195 lbs of meat*

​Quarter

  • Approximately 90 lbs*

 

​ *The approximations are based on a 1,000 pound calf.

  Calves can vary from 800 to 1,200 lbs.

DO you deliver the meat to the customer?

Currently, we do not deliver. For wholesale beef, pick-up is arranged with the processor.  For individual cuts, we arrange for pick-up at the farm.

How much beef do I need for a year for one couple?

We recommend at least a quarter share for a couple that eats beef at least two meals a week.

How much beef do I need for a year for a family of four?

We recommend at least a half share for the average family of four eating 2+ meals with beef per week.

We recommend at least one beef share per year for the average family of six consuming beef 2+ times a week.
